Hippopotamus – An Introduction
Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006It’s a large African plant eating mammal. They live in groups of up to 40 animals. The eyes, ears, and nostrils of the hippo are placed high on the roof of the skull. This allows them to spend most of the day with the majority of their body submerged in the waters of tropical rivers to stay cool and prevent sun burn. Hippos can run at a speed of 30-48 km/hr and this speed is maintained for a few hundred yards.
