Oxen – An Introduction
Thursday, October 5th, 2006Oxen are large and heavy set breeds of cattle, they are trained to carry loads, plough, grain-grinding, powering pumps for irrigation and wagon drawing. For carting they are most often used in a team of two. Oxen can pull harder and longer than the horse particularly the un-movable loads. Though they are not as fast as horses oxen are less prone to injury as they are more sure-footed and do not try to jerk the load.
