Oysters – An Introduction
Thursday, October 5th, 2006The name Oyster is used for a number of different groups of molluscs which grow in marine and blackish water. Some of them are highly prized for food both raw and cooked. Oysters breathe much like fish, using both gills and mantle. All oysters can secrete pearls but not all can produce pearls. The Pinctada maxima roughly the size of a dinner plate, is the largest pearl bearing oyster.
